The Grassinator™ Static Grass Applicator w/ Accessory Lid Pack

Get great static grass on your layout!

Back in 2008 when Raildig.com was Ztrains.com, we built our first static grass generator, and we actually coined the name Grassinator™. There are now other static grass generators on the market but we like our newest version best :)

We've just added a 2-Lid Accessory Pack to the Grassinator™. These lids use the same mesh size but with smaller overall openings in order to better control exactly where your grass goes. You can always just apply a bit of tape to the lid that comes with the Grassinator™ to create a smaller opening too, these new lids just make things a bit easier and quicker!

The Grassinator™ is a static grass applicator designed to help you get the best possible results when applying static grass to your scenic projects. The Grassinator™ generates a negative charge on the custom-cut aluminum disc mounted inside the grass container. An opposing positive charge is carried down through the silicone grounding wire to the alligator clip. Electricity flows from negative to positive, once power is applied we have nice direct path for your static grass to travel.

The alligator clip on the Grassinator™ may be attached to a nail pushed into your electrically conductive, glue-coated scene (Elmer’s works just fine!). Simply add static grass to the grass container, attach the alligator clip to the nail pushed in to your scenery, turn on the lighted power switch at the top of the Grassinator™ then give the unit a slight shake. You now have vertical static grass flowing down to your scene!

An even better alternative to using a pushed-in nail is to use the included potter’s needle. We find this potter’s needle to be a great choice over a regular nail as it’s easy to handle (because it has a handle), it has a sharp point so it more easily sticks in to your scenery, and it leaves a smaller hole when removing it from your newly grassed area. Attach the alligator clip high up on the needle, right under the wooden handle, for best results

We offer both an 8oz and a larger 16oz grass container on the Grassinator™. I personally prefer the smaller, more maneuverable 8oz container, regardless of the scale you’re working in. An added bonus to the 8oz container is you get to keep the aluminum disc in the Grassinator™ just a little closer to the area you’re working on for a better static charge.

Product Details:

  • High-grade silicone wire throughout our build for flexibility and higher temp handling.
  • Lighted LED power switch on the top of the Grassinator™ handle.
  • Custom cut 1/8th inch solid aluminum disc at the bottom of the grass container. This helps to generate a very even static field.
  • The use of the included potter’s needle (for attaching the alligator clip to) makes moving around your layout faster and cleaner.
  • An extra solid lid, makes storing your Grassinator™ less messy when there’s still grass in the container.
  • We use Schedule 40 PVC in our construction. This isn’t your typical home center PVC, this is what’s known as furniture grade PVC and it’s the same material used to build worktables, bike racks and furniture.
